Description
There's nothing quite like walking on top of a mountain, to gain perspective locally and figuratively. A momentary helicopter ride after breakfast had us starting our hike from a place it would have taken us all day to reach, providing ample time to absorb the wonder of this valley view below.
The affects of the tragic fires of the Jasper region will continue to be realized over the coming days, weeks, months and years. One immediate effect is the seasonal closure of the CMH Cariboo Heli-Hiking operation. Our group was the last to experience it this year, and my heart goes out to the talented, enthusiastic, and friendly staff who are now unexpectedly without work. The livelihoods of many I suspect will be severely impacted from the events of this past week.
Parks Canada and the Provincial Governments need to look hard at how to prevent these occurrences from happening again, in this region and many others across the province, and country.
